Michael P Newell, 69, of Hightstown passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick. Born and raised in Boston, MA, Michael lived in New Jersey for the past 40 years, residing in Hightstown for the last 30 years.

Mr. Newell was a graduate of Boston University and was a veteran of the Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He retired after 20 years of service from Haldeman Ford, East Windsor. Michael was a member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Hightstown and was an avid movie fan and loved music especially playing his guitar.

He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Newell and two sisters, Laura and Martha. He is survived by his wife, Fran, and their son David, one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jason, his son and daughter-in-law, Duncan and Christina, two grandchildren, Ryan and Avery, he was planning on becoming a grandfather for a third time. He is also survived by his mother, Edna, one brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Patty, one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Michael and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and MaryAnn. Michael was a beloved uncle and a devoted friend.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30am, April 28, 2014 at St Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 251 Franklin Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Interment will be held at a later date at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, April 27, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. In lieu of flowers donations in Michael’s name may be made to the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, 120 Albany St., Tower One, second floor, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
