Ronald Paul Filepp, 64, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and a longtime resident of Roosevelt, NJ, passed away on Friday, November 11th, after a tragic hit and run incident while riding his bike on a beautiful, clear day in Tabernacle, NJ.
Ron was born in Neptune and raised in Colts Neck, New Jersey. He graduated from Marlboro High School and from Brookdale Community College. He also earned his professional paralegal certification with highest honors from Mercer County Community College.
Ron started out as a sound man for rock and roll bands that played the many venues along the Jersey Shore. His love of music, radio and broadcast technology (and his wonderful speaking voice) led him to becoming a disc jockey for WBJB FM station of Brookdale Community College, then for Magic Radio WMGQ 98.3 in New Brunswick, and as Program Director for WWFM Long Branch. While at WMGQ, Ron created and hosted an original and innovative radio series "Magic Music for a New Age" and enjoyed a regional fan base. Ron was always also interested in law and the justice system and for the last 14 years he was a Court Clerk for the Middlesex Vicinage , New Jersey Courts.
Ron was deeply committed to his community and a rich family life balanced with nature and adventure. He loved weather observation and record keeping, traveling, kayaking, hiking and cycling. He wrote the Weather Column for the Roosevelt Borough Bulletin and faithfully maintained a daily detailed weather log for over 20 years. Ron also loved the Roosevelt Woodland Trail and over the years invested hundreds of volunteer hours in regular upkeep of the trail, and cutting and clearing the tremendous number fallen trees that blocked it after Hurricane Sandy. He took the maintenance of the trail on as his own personal mission and way to share his love of nature with others by keeping the trail accessible. Ron was an avid kayaker of local lakes, rivers, and bays and took regular biking excursions through Western Monmouth County and the Pine Barrens. Ron and his wife Robin shared many wonderful adventures together including trips to England, Scotland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Australia. They also traveled extensively through the United States and Canada.
Ron could fix practically anything and really enjoyed the problem solving and process of mechanisms - especially motors. Ron was also an early computer enthusiast, mastering the early processing languages and could repair and rebuild motherboards.
Ron is remembered most for being an incredibly kind and thoughtful son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He cared for his aging father, Leslie Filepp, and worked tirelessly to ensure his mother, Rosa Filepp, could live out her 99 years of life in her own home. He faithfully encouraged and supported his wife Robin's wish to return to college and earn her BA in Visual Arts. He shared years of comradery and laughter with his brothers and sisters in-law, and nature walks, frog hunts, and stickball with two generations of nieces and nephews. And he truly appreciated the quiet moments with his friends. Ron was a gentle, kind-hearted and loving human being.
Ron is forever beloved and cherished by his wife, Robin Middleman Filepp, brother Victor and sister-in-law Valerie of Gales Ferry, CT, mother-in-law, Mavis Middleman of Tinton Falls; sister and brother-in-law Carol and Mark Hickey of Mesa, AZ; brother and sister-in-law Allen and Nancy Middleman of Austin, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Bruce Middleman and Janet Ceglowski of Ardmore, PA; niece Kristin Borhofen and her husband Scott Grillo of Manhattan, nephew Robert Borhofen and his wife Julie of Huntsville, Texas; niece Allison Middleman of Boise, Idaho; great-nieces Merrelle Grillo, Hollis Grillo, Megan Borhofen, Mackenzie Borhofen; great-nephew, Ambrose Grillo; and Pixel the cat.
