John Joseph Matteo, 96, of Hightstown passed away at his home Saturday, March 25 2017. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 16, 1921 he also lived in West Babylon, NY; before moving to Hightstown in 1963.
John received his Bachelors Degree from St. John’s University in New York and he worked for 36 years before his retirement in 1986 from McGraw-Hill. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Hightstown and was active in the Knights of Columbus and with the building of the church.
Son of the late Joseph and Rose Matteo, brother of the late Marion Valiante and Concetta Sardella, he is survived by his wife of 69 years, Theresa Matteo; one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Christine Matteo; one daughter and son-in-law, Nina R. and Richard Intravartolo; three grandchildren, John Millard and his fiancée Myah Pollak, Jennifer Millard and Katie Devlin; three great grandchildren, Deziree Bryant, John Z. Millard and Jada Lewis and his caregiver for the past two years, Catherine Taylor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am Friday, March 31 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 251 Franklin Street, Hightstown. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hightstown. Friends may call on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown.
