Obituary for Adam F. Scrupski

Adam F. Scrupski Ed.D., 88, of East Windsor died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Irvington, he was an area resident for the past 33 years.

Adam received his Bachelors Degree from Rutgers University in 1950. While at Rutgers, he was a two-letter winner in football and wrestling. He earned a Masters and Doctorate from Rutgers Graduate School of Education and went on to teach Sociology of Education there for 33 years retiring as Professor Emeritus. Adam taught seventh grade English in Warren Township, NJ and was the first principal of the Highland Park Middle School. He served as an expert witness for the NJ State Legislature in Federal Court for a case involving constitutionality of legislation requiring a moment of silence at the start of each school day and was a was involved with the Teaching American History Grant Program at Princeton University for 10 years.

Predeceased by his parents, Adam and Sophie Podlas Scrupski, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sandra Streeter, two daughters from a previous marriage, Susan Banks (Graham) and Barbara Scrupski; one brother, Stephen Scrupski (Mary Anne); two granddaughters, Julia Betts (Ben) and Lilli Banks; three great-grandsons, Adam, Cyrus and Beauregard; two step daughters, Ann Holder (Alexander Van de Putte) and Dina Runcie; five step grandchildren, David, Michael and Liana Runcie, Isabelle and Caroline Van de Putte; two nieces, Mary Scrupski and Ann Goedkoop; one nephew, Stephen Scrupski.

Calling hours will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am Friday at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 251 Franklin Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
