John Wesley Sullivan Sr., 90, of East Windsor passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. Born in Sewaren, Woodbridge Township, he has been a longtime resident of East Windsor.
Mr. Sullivan was a graduate of Woodbridge High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
John enjoyed painting, some of which he won prizes for, and was active as a volunteer firefighter and during the 1950’s was a scout leader and helped his son’s Scott and Dave become Eagle Scouts. He also enjoyed baking Irish soda bread and cheesecakes, cheering on the NY Mets, puzzles and doing jazzercise with his wife. John took great pleasure in giving his grandchildren tractor rides in his backyard, building tree houses and dressing up and playing Santa at family Christmas parties.
John loved his trips with his family to Florida, Bar Harbor, Maine; the Bahamas, Jamaica and many other road trips around the United Sates. He especially loved his trips and vacations with the grandchildren to Six Flags, Point Pleasant, Ocean City, the Caribbean and Disney.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Gondola Sullivan, four children and their spouses, John Wesley Sullivan Jr. and his wife Rosemary, Deborah Wedeking and her husband Paul, Scott Sullivan and his wife Beth and David Sullivan; four grandchildren, Samantha Krobatsch and her husband Matthew, Nicole Sullivan, Lucas Sullivan and Liam Sullivan; one brother and sister-in-law, Byron Sullivan and his wife Peg.
Calling hours will be held 2pm to 5pm Sunday, June 25 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ. Funeral services will be held 10am Monday, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hightstown, 320 North Main Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Interment will follow at CloverLeaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge, NJ.
