Obituary for Anthony J. Fazio

Anthony J. Fazio
Anthony Joseph Fazio
February 15, 1924 - February 4, 2018

Anthony Joseph Fazio of East Windsor, N.J., passed away peacefully on February 4, 2018.
He was 93 years old.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, the youngest of five children, Anthony attended Lafayette Grammar School and East Side High School, from which he graduated in January 1941, after skipping two grades. A veteran of World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, spending most of his service in the Pacific as Storekeeper Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Mona Island, where he earned the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the 1 Star Victory Medal for his service.
Upon returning home from the war in 1946, Anthony met the love of his life, Elizabeth Janet Fletcher; they married in 1952. Anthony and Elizabeth moved to Union, N.J. in 1957, where they raised a family and lived for nearly 30 years, before relocating to Little Falls. Anthony moved to East Windsor following Elizabeth's death in February 2017.
Before his retirement from Roadway Express, Anthony worked as Bakery Manager of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company in Newark. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Anthony retained his sharp mind, quick wit, and unique sense of humor throughout his nearly 94 years. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing word and card games, operating his Etsy store, and attending lunches and outings at the East Windsor Senior Center. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Anthony is the son of the late Francesco Paulo Fazio and the late Rosaria (Levecchia) Fazio. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth, as well as his siblings, Dominic Fazio, Charles Fazio, Angelo Fazio, and Marie (Josie) Lodato. Anthony is survived by his treasured daughters, Leslie Fazio-Rothermal and Beverly Fazio Herter, and their husbands, Darryll W. Rothermal and Christian Herter; his cherished grandchildren, Caroline Herter and Michael Herter; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. February 7, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 251 Franklin Street, Hightstown, NJ, 08520. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
