Joseph F. Hayes (Poppy), 81, of the Rossmoor Section of Monroe Township passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Elms of Cranbury. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Spotswood for over 25 years before moving to Rossmoor.
Mr. Hayes was employed for 35 years with the Postal Service before his retirement in 1990. He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cranbury.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was predeceased by his wife Barbara Hayes and grandson Christopher LaPlante. He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa M LaPlante (Ken), one son, David A Hayes, four grandchildren, Patrick, Nicole, Renee and James, one sister, Mary McGrath.
Calling hours will be held 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Thursday, May 26 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Burial Office and Requiem Eucharist will be offered 11:00am on Friday, May 27, 2016 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 90 South Main Street, Cranbury, NJ 08512 with The Rev. Mother Karin Mitchell presiding. Burial will follow in Spotswood Reformed Church Cemetery, Spotswood.
