Obituary for Richard W Zimmer

Richard W. Zimmer, 71, of Cranbury, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA; he was a resident of Cranbury his entire life.

Richard was a graduate of Hightstown High School Class of 1963 and worked for IBM in Dayton until his retirement. He was a 47 year member of the Cranbury Vol. Fire Company, where he served as Chief from 1984 to 1986 and President from 1992 to 1997 and 1998 to 2003. He was a member of the New Jersey Exempt Fireman’s Assoc., New Jersey State Fireman’s Assoc., Hightstown Apollo Lodge #41 F&AM, First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury and was retired from the New Jersey National Guard after 21 years of service.

Predeceased by his parents and twin brother; William and Edna Zimmer and William F. Zimmer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ina K. Zimmer, one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and James Brady, one son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Joelle Zimmer, four grandchildren, Ian and Adella Brady and Kara and Kaylee Zimmer. He is also survived by two nieces and four nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Funeral services will be held 11am on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury. Burial will follow at Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury. In lieu of flowers donations in Richard’s name may be made to the Cranbury Vol. Fire Company, 2 South Main Street, Cranbury NJ 08512 or the Cranbury First Aid Squad, 68 Maplewood Avenue, Cranbury, NJ 08512.
