Arley O. Konon of East Windsor passed away July 1st with her caregiver by her side.
A Nebraska native, Arley May Olson Konon was born on May 19th 1928 in West Point, Nebraska to Walden & Hildreth Olson. Arley attended Nebraska schools and graduated #1 in her class from West Point High School in 1945. Arley went on to attend the University of Nebraska graduating in June 1950 with a degree in Home Economics. With that degree Arley ventured to New York City landing her first job with Sears & Roebuck as a Textile Engineer. It was in the Sears Lab that she conducted tests on the “early” pantyhose, a big undertaking for a Nebraska farm girl.
It was at the 1964 New York World’s Fair that Arley met the love of her life, Vincent Konon. They were married in September of 1966 and after a short stay in NYC they moved to Teaneck, NJ and eventually East Windsor, NJ. Arley & Vincent loved to travel, entertain, cook and garden together until his passing in January of 2012.
After retiring from Sears, Arley worked for Jamesway Corporation and Shumacher Corporation in Jamesburg. In her spare time Arley continued to garden and was a member and past president of the Rocky Brook Garden Club.
Arley is the daughter of the late Waldren & Hildreth (Holmberg) Olson, she is survived by her brother and sister in-law Lowell & Beverley Olson of Colorado Springs, Co; sister in-law, Ellen Skowronek, nieces and nephews Laurie, Stefan, Christine and Andrea. Arley will be sorely missed by her neighbors and friends.
Graveside services will be held 11am Friday, July 7th at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, 316 Cassville Rd, Jackson, NJ 08527 Arrangements are under the direction of Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, Hightstown.
