Obituary for Dr. Walton B Caldwell III

Dr. Walton B. Caldwell III, 74, of Cranbury passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick May 14, 2018. Born in Pulaski, Virginia, Walt lived in Piscataway before moving to Cranbury in 1981.

Walt was a 1966 graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and was a 1970 graduate of West Virginia University where he received his PhD in Analytical Chemistry.

Walt was a passionate scientist and pioneer in the field of chromatography, which he practiced for nearly 50 years. Walt worked for Merck, Sharp & Dohme in Rahway before founding his own company in 1994, Princeton Chromatography in Cranbury.

Dr. Caldwell was an active member and past president of the Cranbury Lions Club, he served 18 years on the Cranbury Township School Board, he was a past member of the Cranbury Township Planning Board, was a past Asst. Scout Master with Cranbury Troop 52 of the Boy Scouts of America and was an active and avid golfer and member of the Peddie Golf Club in Hightstown.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda L. Caldwell, one son and daughter in law, Jeffrey W. and Sharon Caldwell, two daughters and one son in law, Caren L. Caldwell, Dr. Lauren and Christopher Tanner and two grandchildren, Patrick and Liliana Tanner.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ. A memorial gathering will be held from 1pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walton’s name may be made to the Cranbury Lions Club, PO Box 365, Cranbury, NJ 08512 or the NJ Audubon Association, 9 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ 07924.

Walt was well liked and loved by all who knew him.
