Obituary for James E. "Jim" Holcomb

James E. Holcomb, 75, of West Windsor, peacefully passed away in Hopewell on Friday, June 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Jim was born in Huntington,WV. He graduated from Marshall University in 1964 with a degree in Mathematics and Physics. Upon graduation, he was hired by BellCom and was selected to work on the first Lunar Space Landing for NASA. He had a long and varied career spanning over 30 years with the Bell System and topped off his career by helping with the Y2K transition.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, especially carving Santa figurines for family and friends. He was an excellent bridge player. He loved the Yankees, country music, ice cream, and spending time with his six grandchildren. He and wife Donna met at church as teenagers and were married for over 54 years. They were an excellent team. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and will be sorely missed for his wit, intellect, kindness, and warmth.

Son of the late Eugene and Madge Holcomb, he is survived by his wife Donna K. Holcomb, his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Denise Holcomb; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kevin Devine; his grandchildren James, Joshua, and John Holcomb; and Gavin, Michael, and Kayla Devine; and his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and John Thornhill.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday July 3, 2018, 11:00 am at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow at First Presbyterian Church/ Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury.
