Obituary for Robert M Cox

Robert M. Cox born April 20, 1936 died on February 25, 2020. Bob was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1954 and the Hun School in 1956. Bob joined the USAF in the fall of 1958, completed basic training at Lackland AFB, and assigned to SAC at Loring Base in Caribou, Maine. At Loring, Bob was a flight line firefighter driving a crash truck. In 1960, he was transferred to SAC base in Anderson, Guam and placed in charge of flight line Fire Prevention Base Fire Safety. Bob was honorably discharged as Airman, second class at Travis AFB in California in 1962.

In 1964, Bob returned to Princeton to manage the family business, Cox’s Store, Inc. He met his wife Jane Turner and married July 11, 1964.

After twenty-five years managing the business, Bob retired and made up for some lost time on the golf course. Jane and Bob took many hiking and sailing trips around the world, their most favorite being voyages on the topsail schooner Shenandoah, based out of Martha's Vineyard.

Bob enjoyed being active in the community. He was a volunteer firefighter for Princeton Hook and Ladder and an usher for St. David the King church. In addition, he held many positions in the West Windsor Lions Club and was the Commander of American Legion Post 76 in West Windsor.

Bob was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Jane T. Cox, his parents James and Helen Cox, and his brother Allan Cox. Bob is survived by his daughter Alice Beene (John) of Princeton Junction, NJ, daughter Elizabeth Frasier of Atlanta, GA, brother Don Cox (Janet) of Beach Haven, NJ, and grandchildren, of whom he could not be prouder, Christopher and Emily Beene.

A memorial gathering for Bob and Jane will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St., Hightstown, NJ 08520 from 6 - 8 pm, with a memorial service starting at 7:30pm.
