Obituary for Dr. Victor Marymov
Dr. Victor Ivanovich Marymov was born in Shatsk, Russia on October 11, 1934. He died peacefully in Monroe, New Jersey at the age of 85 on March 3, 2020 after a battle with cancer.
In his younger years Victor participated in a variety of competitive sports including boxing and speed skating and loved outdoor activities.
He started his career in agriculture in 1957 as a Forest Utilization Engineer in Novosibirsk, Siberia and Moscow. He earned his doctorate on November 25, 1975 on his daughter’s 5th birthday. Doctor Marymov worked for over 30 years in Volgograd, Russia at the Agricultural Institute as a professor and researcher. From 1984 to 1990 he was the Rector/Head of the Agricultural Institute in Volgograd. In 1992 he became the Deputy Chief of teaching for the Russian Ministry of Agriculture in Moscow. His highest honor was that of Academician granted in 1997, only the 15th in the field of Ecology in Russia. Dr. Marymov published over 180 scientific works including textbooks used in universities around the world and can be found currently in Princeton University’s library. Victor led scientific delegations in several European countries, China, and Northern Africa. He worked for ten years starting in 1995 for the Plainsboro Township Municipal Center.
Referred to as Papa by family and friends he moved to New Jersey in the early 1990s and resided in Plainsboro, Cranbury, and Princeton. Victor had a passion for nature and spent countless hours tending his gardens. He proudly attended his grandchildren’s academic and athletic events and spent countless hours with them, often challenging them in sports.
Victor is survived by his children: Dr. Oleg Marymov and his wife Lena of Volgograd, Russia and Natasha Brennan and her husband Timothy of Cranbury. He loved dearly all of his grandchildren: Victoria and her husband Ali, Alina and her husband Mikhail, Timothy, Paul, and Oleg and great-grandchildren: Kenan, Emir, and Ivan.
Victor’s family and scientific work are his legacy. His sense of humor and positive outlook on life made everyday beautiful.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 7th from 11:00-12:30 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home 202 Stockton St. Hightstown, NJ 08520
