Frank J. Brennan, Jr., 91, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center at Plainsboro. Born in New Brunswick, he graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1947. He was awarded Bachelors and Masters of Arts degrees from Rutgers University and a Master’s Degree from Rider University. He completed graduate work in history at Fordham University.
He was an active member and leader of the Boy Scouts of America St. Peter’s New Brunswick Parish Troop 21 for many years and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Frank taught English and history at Dunellen High School and Piscataway High School. He then taught at South Brunswick High School before accepting the position of Board Secretary and Business Administrator for the South Brunswick School District. He was an adjunct associate professor of social sciences at Ocean County College. After retiring he worked as an independent consultant as well as a part time employee of the Princeton University Undergraduate Admissions Department.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in Korea with the 7th Infantry Division as a rifle platoon leader and a member of the division G-3 staff. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was a long-time member and president of the Hightstown-South Brunswick Rotary Club, a member of the Cranbury Lions Club, and a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hightstown.
Son of Frank J. Sr. and Callista O’Grady Brennan, he was predeceased by his parents and his sister Anne Middleton. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Spahr Brennan; four sons and their spouses, Kevin and Cecilia Brennan of Oak Bluffs, MA; Frank J. III and Beth Brennan of Cranbury; Patrick and Janine Brennan of Cream Ridge; Timothy and Natasha Brennan of Cranbury; seven grandchildren, Ceili, Michael (Kate), Kevin, Timothy, Meghan, Paul, Oleg, two nieces and two nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held from 4pm to 7pm Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St, Hightstown, NJ 08520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am, Friday, June 25, 2021 at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 251 Franklin St, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Interment will follow in Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury, NJ.
