Obituary for Robert W Hung

Robert Hung, 85, of Hightstown, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2022.

Robert was a lifelong resident of Hightstown, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Hightstown High School, Rutgers University, and earned a Master of Science degree from The College of New Jersey.

Bob worked for the New Jersey Department of Health for 26 years as a research scientist, retiring in 1993. Post-retirement he started his own consultancy, RW Hung Environmental Resources Inc., participating in various research topics on tick-borne disease, environmental assessments, and abatement.

Bob lived a life of service. A member of the Hightstown-Apollo Lodge No. 41 he served as Past Masonic Master in 2002 and 1996. After high school, he served two years in the US Navy and retired from the New Jersey Army National Guard as Lieutenant Colonel in 1997.

He traveled all over the world and appreciated learning new things about the places he visited. His heart was full when surrounded by family, friends, and good food. His infectious laughter could be heard throughout any venue, and he was always ready to share a good story or tall tale.

He is predeceased by his parents One Lung and Lum Choy Hung, brother and sister-in-law Harry and Stella Hung, California, brother James Hung, New York, sister Helen Hong, New Jersey, sister Mary Lee, New Jersey, and brother-in-law, Ted Dudek, New Jersey.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane (Austin), daughters Catherine (Matthew) Gauthier, Paoli, PA, and Linda Hung, Robbinsville, NJ, his beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Victoria, Charlotte, and John Gauthier, sisters Sue Dudek of New Jersey, Nancy Wong (Desmond) of Pennsylvania and Gertrude (Philip) Chan of British Columbia, sister-in-law Pauline Hung of New York, brother-in-law Tommy Hong of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His love of life, generous spirit, and hearty laughter will be missed by many.

Calling hours will be held from 10am to 1pm, Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Services will be held at 1pm at the funeral home with burial following at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's name may be made to the Alzheimer's of NJ, 425 Eagle Rock Ave., #203, Roseland, NJ 07068.
