Thomas G. Stewart, 75, of Allentown, NJ, passed away Tuesday, August 16, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. He was surrounded by his family.
Predeceased by his parents, Thomas J. and Lucy Stewart, and his brother, William Stewart; he is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Frances Biederman Stewart; his sons, Gregg and daughter-in-law Laura, Daniel and daughter-in-law Kimberly; and his eight grandchildren, TJ, Daniel, Alexandra, Matthew, Jake, Emily, Thomas K., and Julia.
Tom was born in New York City, growing up in Flushing, Queens. He attended Holy Cross High School before pursuing his undergraduate degree at Adelphi University. While he was in high school, Tom worked at the local Waldbaum’s supermarket, where he would meet his beloved wife, Fran. They would marry on March 29, 1969, and go on to have two sons, Gregg and Daniel. In 1974, they relocated to East Windsor, NJ, moving to the rapidly expanding neighborhood of Twin Rivers.
Tom continued his education; while working full-time in NYC, he earned his master’s degree in 1977 from Fordham University.
Tom experienced a long career in finance, working in the broadcasting industry for CBS, NBC, and WNET/Thirteen. In the early nineties, he made the move to the financial industry, taking a job with Merrill Lynch (later Bank of America), where he remained until he retired in 2018.
When Tom wasn’t working, he loved coaching his boys in soccer, baseball, and basketball. He left a lasting mark on many Hightstown/East Windsor youths from his time as a coach. In his later years, after his sons grew up, he spent much of his time watching his grandchildren play those very same sports.
