Obituary for Carolynn T Barlow

BARLOW, CAROLYNN WORTH TITZEL - September 23, 1944 – October 3, 2022

Carolynn Worth (Titzel) Barlow of East Windsor passed away on October 3, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. The only child of Robert Worth Titzel and Dorothy Shipley Titzel, Carolynn was born in Charleston, WV and raised primarily in Binghamton, NY. In 1958, she moved temporarily to the campus of The Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ when her father was named Director of Alumni Affairs and Public Relations. Carolynn got a kick out of being the only young lady among the male student body during evening meals in the dining hall. She and her parents later settled in Cranbury, NJ where she would make her home for many years. A 1962 graduate of Hightstown High School, Carolynn was a majorette, and was involved in many social activities. In 1998 she moved to East Windsor, where she made countless friends, and embraced her role as the unofficial mayor of Stuyvesant Court.

Prior to retiring in 2007, Carolynn worked in administrative roles for a variety of organizations including Veterinary Learning Systems, The American Red Cross of Princeton, Arnold Associates, and Yardville National Bank. She was known as a hard-working and loyal employee and often took younger colleagues under her wing. She also formerly served as an on-call volunteer with the Cranbury First Aid Squad, and as secretary of The Georgetowne Condominium Board of Directors.

Known for her carefully curated dinner parties, holiday celebrations, do-it-yourself projects, and festive excursions to the Jersey shore, Carolynn’s special touches and attention to detail made a good time great, and a great time even better. She always had a spot at her table for friends, old and new, and was a hilarious and trusted confidante to many, of all ages and stages of life. Despite the challenges of running a household and working full-time, Carolynn created a loving and happy home, and never missed a school activity or sporting event.

Predeceased by her parents, Carolynn is survived by her children, Robert W. Barlow (Annmarie) and Becky Barlow Fitzsimmons (John), and her grandchildren, Meghan and Daniel Barlow, Joseph McCarthy, and Erin and Ryan Fitzsimmons. Carolynn was also the loving caretaker of many lavishly spoiled dogs over the years, including her cocker spaniel, JB, who also survives her.

A celebration of Carolynn’s life will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St., Hightstown, NJ 08520. All who loved her are welcome. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions to the Cranbury Volunteer First Aid Squad, 68 Maplewood Ave., Cranbury, NJ 08512. Arrangements are under the direction of the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home.
