Obituary for Marta Cabria

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Marta Cabria (Hightstown, New Jersey), who passed away on December 7, 2022 at the age of 91.
Marta de Jesus Guerra de Cabria, affectionately known as Mamita Tita or simply Tita, was born June 22, 1931 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, daughter of Emilia Guerra. Despite losing her mother at the tender age of 18, Marta carried on and looked after her younger sister, Carmen Guerra. She married Julio Esteban Cabria Licona in 1958. Together, they raised five children in their home in Guatemala. Soon after her husband’s passing, she went to live with her eldest daughter and her children in New Jersey.
While in New Jersey, she learned to read and write in English – she even took the United States citizenship test in English at the age of 76! Marta was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community. She enjoyed participating in all of the activities offered by the local senior program. She was a fierce competitor who loved a good challenge. She volunteered at the Senior Citizen Center in East Windsor on many occasions and was honored by the township’s mayor for her work. Marta was also an active member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Hightstown. She lectured the Word of God in church during mass and was also a member of the rosary group.
Marta was a master seamstress, a craftswoman, and an avid gardener. She loved to cook and shop, but most of all, she loved being surrounded by family and friends. Marta will be remembered for her tenacity, humor, creativity, and loving personality, cherished by all who knew her.
Marta is preceded in death by her husband, Julio Esteban Cabria Licona, her son, Arnoldo Cabria, and her grandson, Alan Daniel Cabria. She is survived by her sister, Carmen Guerra and her nieces and nephews; her daughters, Alejandra Emilia Cabria and husband Joseph Sbarra; Ana Patricia Cabria de Herrera and husband Juan Herrera; Aura Virginia Cabria Guerra; and son Julio Esteban Cabria Guerra; grandchildren, Nicolas Sebastian Segura; Alejandra Maria Segura-Silva and husband Xavier Silva; Juan Antonio Herrera Cabria; Rodrigo Andres Segura; Esteban Isia Cabria; Obed Cabria; and great-grandchildren, Ean Daniel Segura; Noah Xavier Silva; and Ela Isabella Silva.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15th 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St Anthony of Padua RC Church (251 Franklin St, Hightstown, NJ 08520), followed by mass at 11:00am.
