Marcella C. Basso, 90, of Monroe passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at her residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Basso was a resident of Brooklyn for many years before moving to Monroe 18 years ago.

She was a school secretary for FDR High School in Brooklyn for 28 years and loved baking, scrabble and playing cards.

Predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Vlatys and her brother, Nicholas Vlatys; Mrs. Basso is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Michael Vecchi) Basso, Elizabeth (Dave) Scafa and Margaret (John) Harvey; four grandchildren, Anthony (Danielle) Tavormina, Ryan Blendermann, Stephanie (Mark) Scafa and Christine Scafa; a niece, Diane McClusick and a nephew, Stephen Amodei.

Calling hours will be held from 3pm to 7pm on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe, NJ 08831. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marcella’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
