Obituary for Joan B McGowan
Joan B. McGowan, 92, of Hightstown, passed away peacefully in her home, Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Born and raised in Queens, NY, she resided for over 30 years and raised her family with her husband Owen in East Brunswick, before they moved together to Hightstown.
After attending St. John's University, Joan spent most of her career with Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick. She also loved sewing, knitting, and painting, and produced many works of art for her family. She always looked forward to spending time with her six grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents, Luke and Veronica Broderick, her brother Jack and sisters Eileen and Veronica, and by her husband of 48 years Owen in 2017, she is survived by her two daughters, Sheila (and husband Michael Robbins), Pegeen (and husband Michael Ungvarsky), son Owen (and wife Deborah), six grandchildren, Jack, Luke, Maeve, Matthew, Keira and Kelsey.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:00 am, Friday, December 30, at Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St. Hightstown, NJ 08520. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 251 Franklin St. Hightstown, NJ 08520. A private entombment will follow for immediate family. In lieu of flowers donations in Joan's name may be made to St. Patrick's Cathedral, NY, NY (saintpatrickscathedral.org). In addition to being the church Joan and Owen were married at in 1969, Joan regularly viewed the livestreamed Masses at St. Patrick's during the last several years.
