Obituary for Frances E Washington

Frances P. Washington, beloved mother
and grandmother, passed away peacefully
on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the age
of 97. Frances was predeceased by her
parents, George and Sarah Phillips, her
brother, William G. Phillips, and grandson
Jarrod K. Washington.

Frances Elizabeth was born near Catawba,
NC, and spent her early years surrounded by
numerous Brown family members. She
graduated from Catawba Rosenwald HS in 1941,
later moved to NJ early in WWII, then became
certified as a Jr. Draftsman Trainee EE by Dec.,
1942 at Fort Monmouth. There, she met an
Army officer and Tuskegee Airman, Lt. Charles E.
Washington. The two were married in Elkton,
MD on Feb. 4, 1947, moving to East Orange,
NJ by 1950.

While raising and educating three sons,
Frances was active in the St. Marks AME
Church, and sang in the choir. For several
years, Frances served as the President of the
Lincoln School PTA. Right before the family
moved to Howell Twsp., she began working as
a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, a
position she continued for 2 decades, retiring
with a medical disability in 1983. Until her
health declined, Frances was an active church
member, enjoyed going to the theater and
civic presentations, as well as staying in touch
with the extended Brown family members.

She is survived by her loving sons: Kevin
Washington of Seattle, WA; Keith and Debra
Lee Washington of Plantation, Fl, and grandsons
Tyler C. and Chance D. Washington; Rey Washington
of East Windsor, plus granddaughter Elyse
Washington of Somerset, and her husband Kyle
Daniele.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on
March 16, 2023 at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral
Home, 202 Stockton St., Hightstown, NJ. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the American
Heart Association.
