Obituary for Barbara L Smatusek
Barbara L. Smatusek, 93 of Cranbury passed away peacefully Friday, April 14, 2023 at her home. Born in Cranbury, she was a resident of Cranbury her entire life.
Barbara was a graduate of the Cranbury School, Hightstown High School, Mercer Medical Center School of Nursing and Trenton State College. Barbara retired in 1994 after 25 years working as the School Nurse for Applegarth Middle School in Monroe.
She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Cranbury and professionally was a member of MCREA, NEA, NJREA and a life member of the Middlesex County School Nurses Association.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Fred C. “Fritz” and Virginia Liedtke, her husband Paul P. Smatusek, her son Peter Smatusek and her sister, Estelle A. “Sis” Liedtke. She is survived by her two daughters, Dale A. Smatusek of Hightstown and Sharon L. Harris of Voorhees. Six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held 11am Wednesday, April 19 at Brainerd Cemetery in Cranbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Cranbury Volunteer Fire Company, 2 South Main Street, Cranbury, NJ 08512, Cranbury First Aid Squad, 68 Maplewood Avenue, Cranbury, NJ 08512, Cranbury United Methodist Church, 21 North Main Street, Cranbury, NJ 08512 or Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ 08731. Arrangements are under the direction of the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, Hightstown.
