Margaret Hoffman Dubell, 89, of East Windsor passed away at Meadow Lakes Thursday, January 26, 2017. Born in Trenton, NJ she grew up in Cranbury. After attending Cranbury Elementary School, she graduated from Hightstown High School and Wilson College. She attended The College of New Jersey (Trenton State College) to receive her Library Science Certification.
She was the librarian at the Walter C. Black Elementary School in Hightstown for six years, and then became the librarian at The Peddie School for eighteen years, retiring in 1989. She was a 66 year member of the First Baptist Church of Hightstown, serving on the Diaconate and choir there. For nine years she was a Girl Scout Leader in Hightstown. She was a 60+ year member of the Hightstown Friday Club and past president; a member of the Hightstown East Windsor Historical Society; a member of the American Association of University Women; the Red Hat Society (Cranbury Crimson Ladies); a member of the Long Beach Island Women’s Club and the Ladies Guild of the Zion Lutheran Church in Barnegat Light.
Peg enjoyed sewing many outfits for her three daughters when they were younger. She became interested in crafts and entered many community and church craft shows where she featured handmade articles with a shore motif. Later in life she studied watercolor painting and painted many house portraits and pictures usually featuring a seashore theme. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
She and her husband George lived in Hightstown for 46 years before moving to Rossmoor in Monroe Township, and also spent summers at their Barnegat Light home before moving there year round. In 2010 they moved to the Meadow Lakes Retirement Community in East Windsor. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in August 2016.
Daughter of the late Sara and William C. Hoffman, and sister of the late Joseph V.D. Hoffman and William F. Hoffman, she is survived by her husband George, three daughters, JoAnne D. Reisinger and Ray Reisinger, Janice K. Dubell and Jeanne D. Pyrz and David Pyrz, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
Private family burial will be held at Brainerd Cemetery in Cranbury. A memorial service will be held 2pm Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Meadow Lakes, 300 Meadow Lakes, Hightstown, NJ 08520. In lieu of flowers donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, 22 South Main Street, Cranbury, NJ 08512. Arrangements are under the direction of the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520.
