Theofilos George Nikitiades, 77, of Hightstown, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the University Medical Center at Princeton surrounded by his loving family. Affectionately known as “Teddy”, he was born in Nisyros, Greece. At the age of 19, Teddy immigrated from Greece and lived in New York City where he worked in his uncle’s bakery. While in New York he met his wife, Kathy to whom he was married for the past 50 years. In 1961 they moved to Hightstown where they made a beautiful home for their family. Prior to opening his own restaurant, Teddy worked as a cook for the Hightstown Luncheonette. In 1973 he opened Teddy’s Restaurant in Cranbury. His daily interaction with his customers young and old was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Teddy was an honorary lifetime member of the Cranbury Vol. Fire Co. #1, an honorary member of the Cranbury Lion’s Club, a member of the Hightstown Elks Lodge No. 1955 and a member of the Greek Ahepa. In 2010 he was awarded the Key to Cranbury by the mayor. Among Teddy’s greatest passions were his beloved Yankees, working in his backyard in his garden, his birds and many other animals.
Surviving are his wife Kathy, two daughters and a son, Cynthia (Andre Jr.) Maglione of West Windsor; Aileen (Chris) Konzelmann of Moorestown; George (Wendy) Nikitiades of Cranbury, four grandchildren, Niko and Athena Maglione and Chase and Alexa Konzelmann, one brother and sister in law, Demetrios and Alexendra Nikitiadis of Fort Lee; one brother in law, Rev. Father James Condos of Astoria, NY; one sister in law, Irene Nikitiadis of Greece and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, August 31St at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road, Hamilton Township, NJ 08619. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The viewing will be held at the church Tuesday, August 30Th, from 4PM to 8PM with Trisaghion services taking place at 7:00PM. Funeral arrangements are being held under the direction of the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown NJ 08520.
