Memories of Mami
My Dearest Mami,
Where to begin? How to begin? So many years and so many memories spent as a family.
I could never do justice with words on a page to convey how lucky, thankful, and blessed I am that the Lord graced me with your presence. It is rare to find people as lovely as you in our lives. We have been so very lucky to be able to have had you as part of our lives for so very long.
What a fantastic life you led. A woman of means, privilege and security in Havana to a life of unknown possibilities in America doing what was best for your children and the children of your siblings. Talk about role models. The strength and conviction you demonstrated while starting all over and care for your family while your beloved father was denied the chance to accompany you. You faced hard times and uncertainty while building a new life, in a new world. I listened intently to these stories on our many trips to Florida. My admiration and love for you and for Cuco knows no bounds.
I have always thought of you as my second Mother and learned much needed guidance on being a parent. Because of you I met Bibi and was blessed with my own children. I learned more about family from your family then I could imagine. You took care of our children while we worked. You cooked for us when Bea and I worked. I treasure those dinners, Christmas mornings, ’ The Cuban Posse’s’ marathon Christmas Eve dinners, Mother’s Day at the diner. Tita and Cuco always with us through pre-school, grade school, and sports events for the boys. Times they will always treasure. There are so many wonderful memories.
There will never be another like you Tita.
Con todo mi amor,
Kevin
