For a few years Apitita, as she was known to her grandchildren, would rent a house at Sailor’s Lake in the Poconos. She would take my mom, me, Tina, Alex, and a box of Krispy Kreme donuts for an entire week each summer. This seems so long ago but I still remember how much fun that was. We would fish, swim, take out the row boat, and go to the alpine slide at Camelback Mountain. I know she cherished those weeks in the Poconos but it wasn’t so much the beauty of the lake or the mountains. What she loved was seeing the joy Tina, Alex, and I had while we were there. And that is pretty much how she lived her life: her happiness came in how happy she could make everyone around her. And believe me, it was hard not to enjoy life when she was around.
